Future Ground
Future Ground is a welcoming, future-oriented technology, innovation, and opportunity hub opening summer 2027 in Mahama Refugee Camp. A place where displaced and host-community youth will gain the skills, confidence, networks, and real-world opportunities they need to graduate into independent adult lives.
Future Ground is being co-created with young people, the Government of Rwanda, industry experts, regional employers, educators, creatives, and innovators — built to meet today's needs while preparing students to thrive in tomorrow's evolving world.
This journey puts you inside that ecosystem at its earliest, most formative stage. As Future Ground’s doors open, your presence, investment, and voice will help shape what it becomes.

Alight is committed to the young people who are navigating displacement during their most formative years.
In Mahama, that commitment now has a building: Future Ground.
On this journey over five days of programming (including World Humanitarian Day!) you'll walk alongside youth already using Future Ground as intended — co-working and co-dreaming alongside peers to learn, grow, and explore visions of a bright future.
As a co-creator, you'll meet Alight's Rwanda team, curriculum partners, and tech and innovation mentors to see firsthand what it looks like when a community's own ambition is matched with real infrastructure.
Discovery
Explore Rwanda. From the country’s deep historic context, to the realities of displacement through today’s lens. You’ll also experience a richness of culture, the vibrancy of Kigali, the protected beauty of Akagera National Park, and community sites where ideas are building real change.
Reflection
As a co-creator, the journey reflections you cultivate will fuel future community co-design. You’ll have the opportunity to celebrate World Humanitarian Day on August 19th with Future Ground youth and the wider Mahama community. Return home not just with memories, but with deepened understanding and renewed inspiration to find others and do the doable.

This isn’t just a trip —
it’s an invitation for thinkers, future-shapers, and generous hearts.
You might be a first-time supporter or a longtime Alight changemaker, a creative, a technologist, or an entrepreneur curious about digital pathways out of displacement. You don’t need years of field experience.
All you need is empathy, curiosity, and an interest in building alongside the young people who Future Ground
is being designed for.
